We know that stress levels are high today. Karen Dillon and Rob Cross found that it’s not only because of your macrostressors like a job loss, death, or illness. Karen tells Kevin that there is more microstress due to our connectivity. These are the little stressors that accumulate and lead to significant negative impacts on our mental and physical well-being. Karen shares some language we can use to describe microstress and how we can reduce their effects.

WHATEVER. When we use this word to answer a question, we aren't deciding or, we are passing the buck. Richard Moran believes that when we use the word Whatever we may feel helpless or lack control, and we surrender. Often, we have more control than we think. So, when we make decisions, both the big and the small ones that seem insignificant, we need to be intentional. The action we take follows the intent.

Too often, when we focus on the reward or incentive, we lose interest in the work and effort decreases, eventually leading to negative outcomes. Stefan Falk suggests that, as humans, we want to learn, grow, and do good by others. When we are intrinsically motivated, we become happier and more productive. He highlights the importance of changing our mindset and provides actionable exercises to nurture our intrinsic motivation. By discovering joy in our work, we can encourage our teams to do the same and create a path to success.

Ping-pong tables, free-lunch Friday, or another amenity are just things. Things are not culture. Culture is how you show up. Shaara Roman joins Kevin to discuss building a conscious workplace. Often, there is a disconnect between what we say our culture is and what we see, feel, and hear in the hallways (virtual or physical). When you are conscious of your culture, you know and live your values. You know what differentiates you from the competitors. You know how to hold people accountable. When we know our purpose, we can drive profits.

Time is valuable and powerful, so it's important to add value to everyone we meet and serve. Deepak Ohri joins Kevin to discuss the power of luxury and how it relates to getting better. Spoiler alert, luxury is not always defined by price or profit but rather by the experiences and emotional connections it provides. FOMO (fear of missing out) can hold us back, but FOPO (fear of people's opinions) can also prevent us from moving out of our comfort zone. Acknowledging failures and growing from lessons learned is key to personal and professional growth

We now have up to 5 generations in the workplace. Baby boomers, Gen Z, Millennials, you name it. Each generation views the world based on the time frame they moved through history; what were the popular tv shows, what new technology was released, and what was happening worldwide. This creates a 'generation gap' that is not necessarily negative; it is an opportunity to learn. Dr. Tim Elmore joins Kevin to discuss how we can get the most out of each generation vs. putting up with each other. At the end of the day, every generation wants to be led with humility, respect, and curiosity.

Culture is more than eye candy on the wall; it is how we show up every day. Matt Mayberry joins Kevin to discuss creating a positive and thriving culture. According to Mayberry, a positive culture must be clearly defined and integrated into every aspect of your company, from top to bottom. He says there must be a clear distinction between what constitutes a positive culture and what does not. Culture must be at every piece of your organization and connected to your purpose. This is how you create buy-in; this is how you create a positive culture; this is how you create organizational success.

This episode is about how to create clarity in communication, whether it's for ourselves or for others. Kevin stresses the importance of clarity for building confidence, setting direction, and increasing productivity and momentum. He provides four pieces of advice for creating clarity: (1) be clear yourself before creating clarity for others, (2) communicate more clearly by picking your words carefully and ensuring that the other person has understood your message, (3) clarify your intention to avoid confusion and misinterpretation, and (4) repeat without being repetitious to connect the dots and reinforce the message. The speaker suggests that creating greater clarity in expectations, direction, and boundaries can be the most important skill for a leader.

Our work is changing. The pace and nature of change are becoming more and more pronounced. Can we keep up with the rate of change? Do we even understand the change? Gabriella Rosen Kellerman joins Kevin to help us think about change, so we move beyond just surviving to thriving, personally and professionally. Some people are better at adapting to changing circumstances, yet this is a skill we can learn. Our brains want to revert to that which is familiar and comfortable, yet what is already known may not be what is necessary to move forward. Aaron De Smet and Kevin talk about Deliberate Calm, a practice developed to give leaders new skills to learn and lead. This doesn’t mean less change. It means we are better prepared for change, and the training we have is relevant to the situation.

Innovation is not a one-time event; it’s a continuous cycle. It requires an environment that encourages and supports creativity. It requires an environment that leverages the human-centered mindset. Mauro Porcini tells Kevin that we are in an age of excellence; either you do it, or someone else will. The most important tool for innovation is curiosity. We need to maintain the balance between dreaming and executing and growing through practice.
