Think about a time when you were really confident – when you did something and before you did it, you were confident about how well it was going to go.
What happens when you’re confident? Things generally go pretty well, right?
Confidence is critical to our success, especially as leaders.
In this episode, I’ll talk about five keys to help you build greater confidence for greater success.

It wasn’t planned, and over the past 18 months, many of us became remote leaders and workers. Darleen DeRosa and Jim Citrin are the authors of Leading at a Distance: Practical Lessons for Virtual Success. They sit down with Kevin to discuss leadership skills that have become more important as we work remotely. They asked leaders what their biggest challenge was in this environment and the majority said it is inspiring and motivating their teams. Purpose and authenticity have been increasingly important leadership capabilities over time, but they are now more central and expected than ever. We need to be more deliberate and thoughtful with our teams and find opportunities to build trust through a screen.
In this episode, Darleen and Jim share:
Quote: In a virtual world, people's discretionary effort is what determines whether they and their organizations really thrive or just kind of go along. -Jim Citrin

I get asked this question a lot:
How can I be more influential?
And often times when I am asked this, it isn’t phrased exactly like that. It might sound more like…
How can I motivate my team to do more?
How can I better inspire my team?
There are a lot of ways that it is stated, but the bottom line is that they are asking: how do I influence people?
And I bring this up specifically because the way that the question is often phrased is part of the problem.
As leaders, if we want to have greater influence, we must focus on people and not position. Check out this episode to learn more about how YOU can be more influential.

You know when you are on a good team. In fact, you feel energized and productive when you work with that team. The question becomes, can we get engagement, productivity, and happiness at work? Mike Zani believes it can and when you have a happy and engaged team, productivity goes through the roof. Mike is the author of The Science of Dream Teams: How Talent Optimization Can Drive Engagement, Productivity and Happiness. He shares with Kevin that most CEOs have a business strategy and a financial plan. However, few have a talent strategy. Yet, productivity and the bottom line are the results of our talent. Engagement begins with an intentional mission and culture. When you get your team connected to the mission and values, you get discretionary effort.
In this episode, Mike breaks down the title of the book and shares his ideas on:

Susan McPherson is a “serial connector” and suggests we need to get back to humanity. She is the author of The Lost Art of Connecting: The Gather, Ask, Do Method for Building Meaningful Business Relationships and shares her three-step process to building relationships. Connection is different from networking. When you connect, you are intentional, you ask meaningful questions, and you listen carefully. Authentic connections not only can help us live longer; a strong social network can add 15 years to your life. Further, a connected workforce is a productive workforce.
In this episode, Susan discusses:
1. Gather, Ask, Do.
2. JOMO.

Is more better? Maybe, if we are talking about ice cream. What about if we are talking about collaboration? Rob Cross would argue that we can become overwhelmed by all the connecting and collaborating. Pre-pandemic we spent 85% of our time in collaborative activities, like e-mail, phone calls, meetings… That is higher today. Rob is the author of Beyond Collaboration Overload: How to Work Smarter, Get Ahead, and Restore Your Well-Being. The book is a culmination of research on mapping the patterns of connectivity and collaboration among high performers. It’s not that they didn’t collaborate; however, they chose how they used their time and strategically connected. Rob shares why we tend to overextend ourselves and what we can do with the time we get back. Our well-being is tied to our healthy relationships and reducing the micro-stressors.
In this episode, Rob shares:
